“Spiritual practices are specific activities you do to deepen your relationships with the sacred and the world around you. Practices help one connect to God (or whatever name you use to describe that “something more” beyond yourself). They enable you to become actively engaged with your inner or “true” self — the depth of your being”. Here is a sample of what we are offering this year. We would love for you to join us.
Living in this world requires much of us. The ebbs and flows of life can leave us longing for a quiet place to simply be with no agenda than to listen to the still, small voice within and to honour the experience of the day that has been. Sacred Pause at Day’s End is an opportunity to gather ‘together’ online. We will ground ourselves with a poem, a reading from a sacred text or an excerpt from a wide body of spiritual literature, and then enter into a brief time of contemplation, guided meditation and silence. NO previous meditation experience is needed, only the desire to enter a space of calm and quiet. To receive the zoom link or to inquire further please contact margaret@broadviewunited.com

Join us for “Sacred Steps”, a transformative program that invites you to embark on a journey of self-discovery through walking meditation, barefoot walking, and nature walks. Immerse yourself in the beauty of Finnerty Gardens, Mystic Vale, and other enchanting locations around the campus. Through cultivating mindfulness, fostering a sense of wonder, and deepening our connection to the natural world, we will rediscover the Mystery within ourselves and creation. These programs will take place outdoors, rain or shine, so please dress for the weather. All are welcome.
Lectio is a meditative spiritual practice using a passage (scripture, poem, paragraph. prayer) which is read aloud by individuals three times per set. After the first reading the group identifies a word or phrase that speaks to them. The object is not to try to understand what the passage as a whole is saying but what draws the listener’s attention. The passage is read again three times and the members of the group share a feeling or vision that the word they chose invokes. The passage is read again three times and after this set of readings the group shares the invitation that they received for the week invoked by the word they had chosen. The group meets via Zoom on Thursday mornings at 8:30am beginning on Thursday, September 14th and all are welcome to join.
Tai Chi Chih is a simple, gentle form of Tai Chi introduced in 1974 to enhance balance and health. Everyone is welcome to join, whether a part of the congregation or part of the community. There is no cost for the program and no special gear is needed (anything comfortable). We begin with a self massage and some stretches, then move into the Tai Chi form. There are only 20 postures repeated on left and right sides so it is easy to pick up. You do not need any experience with Tai Chi to participate. Labyrinths have been used since ancient times as symbols of pilgrimage.
Upon moving to the renovated Arbutus (BVU) site, we look forward to once again being able to engage the spiritual practice of walking the labyrinth. A new outdoor labyrinth will also be ‘an offering’ to our community friends and neighbours. Please stay tuned for labyrinth sessions for both individuals and groups!
