Worship Service Times

During our current transition, we are holding one service at 11 am at the First Metropolitan United Church (932 Balmoral Rd.). Livestreaming is available. (Click HERE to watch live-streamed or recorded services.)

At 11 am, experience our progressive theology complemented by contemporary music. We also offer a 9 am chapel service at First Met. This small, intimate service in the Chapel is distinguished by its informality and lay participation.

Please note: We look forward to soon offering two services on Sundays: The Bridge and The ConXion. See below for details.

Before attending, we encourage you to check our website or subscribe to our weekly email, BVU Bits and Bytes, to stay updated with our latest news and messages. Subscribe: click HERE.

Open Doors, Open Hearts, Open Minds

That’s what we do here on a daily basis. So come exactly as you are. Regardless of your age, religious background, racial heritage, sexual orientation, or gender identity, we aim to make sure you feel welcome.  No dress requirements and while we rely on donations to run our programs, money is never a barrier to your participation in the life of our community.

The ConXion and the Bridge:

We offer 2 different types of worship services on Sunday,

  1. The ConXion: this service celebrates the blurred lines between the sacred and secular and helps us make the connections. Using video clips, spoken word and a wide array of music styles and choices, we seek to consistently integrate these from a progressive theological perspective. A vibrant, interactive, engaging worship experience for all ages.
  2. The Bridge: attempts to “bridge” traditional and contemporary United Church worship styles using hymns both old and new, will incorporate both piano and organ music, and will be familiar to people who have attended church previously

Both services preach progressive theology, and strive for inclusive language but whereas The ConXion will change the words of beloved music – even Christmas Carols 😊 The Bridge will not alter the tradition so radically.

So, grab a cup of coffee and come into our “living room”! Let your children play, dance, and sing- they have so much to teach all of us! In fact, we’ve created some special places for them to explore their own spiritual paths, in developmentally appropriate ways.

But life in our church community is about more than what happens on Sunday: check out the many services, programs, and activities offered, mostly free of charge, throughout the week and year to anyone interested.
